I promised a detailed itinerary for our trip, so here it is! As mentioned, the plans include travel to Paris, France,Germany and Austria. Here are the cities/sights we're seeing:
April 12-15-- Arrive Paris, France. All 3 of us have been to Paris so hopefully there will be fewer surprises than if we hadn't been before. Mariah and Leah have hostel reservations on Rue de Mouffetard. We recommend you Google this road to get an idea of where they'll be staying. Apparently, there's an ancient Roman ampitheater just down the street.
April 15, 16--We'll be flying to Stuttgart, Germany--where David's uncle lives--on the 15th. There, we will hang out/rest until the 17th when we hit the road for Berchtesgaden, Germany.
April 17-19--These days, we'll be staying in Berchtesgaden and sight seeing. We have hotel accomodations set already. (The trip from Stuttgart to Berchtesgaden is approx 5 hours via car.) Here we will take a boat onto Lake Koningsee and to St. Bartholomew's Church. Above is a picture of Lake Koningsee and what we believe to be St. Bartholomew's Church. The lake is the deepest in the Alps. The pictures are beautiful, so we can't imagine what it's going to be like in person! We will also take the salt mine tour in Berchtesgaden.
April 19--We will be taking a train from Berchtesgaden to Salzburg, Austria (1 hour). In salzburg we will be taking a city tour. Yes, it does include the von Trapp house! Salzburg is only about 13 miles away from Berchtesgaden. This will be a day trip.April 20--On this day we will depart Berchtesgaden and make our way to Garmisch, Germany. But on our way here, we will drive through St. Johann, Zell am See, Innsbruck, Seefeld, and Mittenwald which are all cities located in Austria.
April 20-21--We have reservations at the "Edelweis Lodge & Resort." The 21st is a big day as we are touring Neuschwanstein Castle. You know, the castle that Disney modeled theirs after. (The picture on the right shows Neuschwanstein.) This will be an all day tour.
April 22--We will be departing Garmisch to head back to Stuttgart. On our drive back, though, we will make a stop in Oberammergau, a town known for it's would carvings as well the every-ten-year-showing of "Passion Play." Unfortunately, well be missing the play.
April 23-24--On these days, we will be in Stuttgart, though we'll be making day trips to Heidleberg, Germany and/or Strasbourg, France depending on time as we fly back to Paris the 24th.
April 24 (evening)-- We will fly back to Paris this evening to catch our flight to the U.S. in the morning. We will make a 16 hour layover in Charles de Gaulle fun!
19 days until the adventure begins!
