Hidden in Heidelberg

Day Five: Spetzi

Guten morgen. And thank goodness for American breakfasts.

Walking to the train station, and passing C33 (*Ask for more details.), we then took a train to another train station, where we took a train. Oh, Germany. You will never cease to amaze me with how high your tolerance is for beer.  We sat behind three soccer fans, each holding a case of 24 bottles of beer, and watched as they drank one after another, after another, after another.  And when we got off the train in Heidelberg, it was like they hadn't had anything to drink at all. Was there water in the bottles?

Heidelberg was straight out of the Shirley Temple's "Heidi."  And boy, was it clean. We went up a lift that took us to the Heidelberg Castle--were surrounded  by rude, Jr. High Italian girly tourists--and then proceeded to the bridge overlooking the river that runs by the town.

We then ate a fabulous lunch at a little German cafe--had some Spetzi (Cola and Fanta, with an orange slice floating around.) and a very thin pizza called Flammkuchen.

Looking down from Heidelberg Castle.
After a few hours of sightseeing we headed back to Stuttgart and here we all are, waiting for a lasagna dinner. Tomorrow's a big day, we're going to Berchtesgaden.

Over and out.
